A distanza di tre anni dal suo ultimo lavoro in studio, Eric Clapton presenta il suo nuovo album, ventunesimo capitolo della sua ormai cinquantennale carriera.
"Old sock", prodotto da Clapton con la collaborazione di Doyle Bramhall II, Justin Stanley e Simon Climie, include due episodi composti dallo stesso 'Slowhand' come “Gotta get over” e “Every little thing” e dieci riletture di canzoni apprezzate dal chitarrista dalla sua infanzia fino ad oggi: da “Further on down the road” di Taj Mahal a “Goodnight Irene” di Leadbelly, passando per “The folks who live on the hill” di Jerome Kern e Oscar Hammerstein, “Still got the blues” di Gary Moore, standard jazz come “All of me” e “Your love is here to stay”, “Your one and only man” di Otis Redding e così via. Il disco gode di importanti partecipazioni come quelle dell'ex Beatle Paul McCartney (al basso su "All of me"), Steve Winwood (all'organo su "Still got the blues") e JJ Cale (ai cori su "Angel").
